   Le CorbusierLe Chaux-de-Fonds, 1887 - Cap Martin, 1965
Le Corbusier was arguably the most influential and well known architect of the twentieth century. Before any other architect, he realized that new methods of building required not only a functional approach, but a completely new aesthetic. His furniture, like his architecture was based on his belief that new methods of production, materials and social trends would require a new approach to the problems of design. His willingness to completely rethink existing conventions resulted in forms wich were both functional and aesthetically pleasing, and his lounge and sofa designs are now recognized as hallmarks in the history of design.
