Each hide has short, shiny hair and supple, soft leather. All of our natural cowhides are chromium-tanned through a proprietary process, and each is hand picked from the best tanneries in Brazil before being shipped to the U.S. We offer a wide variety of colors, styles and even sizes to match any home d�cor that you may have. Most hides are available in three sizes:

Medium: 28-35 Sq. Ft. or 6' x 6'
Large: 36-42 Sq. Ft. or 6' x 7.5'
X Large: 43-47 Sq. Ft. or 6.5' x 7.5'

How can you tell the difference between a quality tanned cowhide� and inferior cowhides?

Having seen very many extremely poor quality cowhides and cowhide products which are touted daily in wholesale and retail markets, and on the Internet, we can assure you that this is a very valid question; and one you should know about!

A cowhide that has been tanned properly � and there are many that aren�t � will not shed under normal wear. It will have a clean sheen, and has been tanned through a chromium-based process that provides softness to the hair, suppleness to the leather underneath, and longevity underfoot. It�s an item that you will be proud to own and show-off to others because of it�s luxurious and clean look and feel. It will immediately blend-in with other fine quality furnishings that are placed around it.

Inferior cowhides are much the antithesis to this. They will often have a chemical odor, or other odors from partial bio-degrading as a result of improper tanning. This also results in a dull, sometimes stiff coat that may suffer from hair fall-out before even seeing any use at all. Poorly selected hides may also possess an asymmetrical shape. Don�t get fooled into buying a poor-quality hide at rock-bottom prices; They most certainly are available on the market.

Caring for Your Hide

Under normal conditions when used as a rug, a cowhide will give years of beauty and durability with only minimal care. With light wear, you can shake out the hide to remove dust or simply vacuum as you would any other rug without the brushes running. The hide's natural oils help to repel the inset of liquids and resist staining, so you can just wipe-up most any spills. If a stain should occur, you can use mild soap, warm water and a soft brush and rub your cowhide with the grain of the hair. We recommend rotating your hide every 3 months in high traffic areas, and not placing your cowhide in direct sunlight.
